Arts Council chief to step down
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Lee Keesler, president and CEO of the Arts & Science Council, says he will leave his post effective June 30, 2009.
Keesler, who joined the group in 2004, says the leadership transition will allow the council to "re-energize and adapt to a changing community."
During his tenure, the council developed a five-year plan to expand community engagement and strengthen long-term sustainability.
He also and oversaw its $83 million Campaign for Cultural Facilities.
"While I am supportive of his personal decision, he will be sorely missed," Don Truslow, chair of the council's board, says in a statement. "He has been a tremendous asset for the cultural community."
In his remaining months with the organization, Keesler will focus on completing the capital campaign and the 2009 annual fund drive.
