Dubester leaves Hispanics in Philanthropy

Ilana Dubester stepped down June 27 as program coordinator of Hispanics in Philanthropy in North Carolina, a role she held for almost five years.

"I'm taking some time off to reflect and think about my next role in the movement," she says. "I feel like I need to be more actively involved in the community instead of working in the background."

Dubester plans to take a "mini sabbatical" of at least two months, time she says she will use to relax, do research and think about her next move, which could include advocacy.

During her tenure with the Hispanics in Philanthropy, which works to forge partnerships between organized philanthropy and Hispanic communities, the group awarded a total of more than $3 million in grants to 47 Latino groups.

Until a replacement is found, Alex Easdale, a Miami-based employee of Hispanics in Philanthropy, will serve as interim program coordinator for North Carolina.

And while her future plans are yet to be identified, Dubester says Chatham County will continue to be her home, and the Latino community will continue to be her focus.
