East Carolina fundraising has record year

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Halfway through its Second Century Campaign, East Carolina University has raised $106.8 million, or 53.4 percent of its $200 million campaign goal.

ECU passed the campaign's halfway mark in the fiscal year ended June 30, during which gifts and pledges from all sources totaled $36.2 million, an all-time high.

The Second Century Campaign will support the strategic plan the university adopted in 2007.

"Raising half the financial goal for the Second Century Campaign represents great progress, yet we know the second half of a campaign is always more challenging," says Mickey Dowdy, vice chancellor of university advancement.

The strategic plan's initiatives include expanding and strengthening scholarship programs; establishing distinguished professorships; endowing established cultural programs; strengthening research programs that have a direct impact on economic development; expanding research into the cause, treatment, and cure of diseases most prevalent in the region and state; and supporting the construction of new campus facilities.
