SALISBURY, N.C. -- Rowan-Cabarrus Community College received 19 grants totaling $1.8 million for fiscal 2007-08, a school record.
"It's rewarding to see the difference the Office of Grants Development has made at the college," Daphne Lewis, director of grants development, says in a statement.
Since the office was created in November 2005, the college has received 47 grants totaling more than $2.43 million.
During 2007-08, 35 faculty and staff members were involved in grant-writing projects.
The money raised will go toward radiography equipment and laboratory renovations, software and equipment for nursing programs, student scholarship programs, biotechnology workshops for high-school teachers, a stop-smoking program, and career and technical education assistance.
Rowan-Cabarrus, a comprehensive, community-based institution of higher learning, college enrolls roughly 20,000 adult students and offers associate degrees, diploma and certificate programs.
