Kate B. Reynolds gives ECU three grants

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina University in Greenville has been awarded three grants totaling $868,445 by the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust in Winston-Salem.

The university and the trust share the mission of improving the quality of life and health care in eastern North Carolina.

The recent grants include:

* $298,188 for operating funds to establish mental-health services in the Greene County schools. With funding from the trust, ECU's Department of Psychology, Greene County Health Care/Student Health Services, school personnel and community members, mental-health services will be made available to students through school-based health centers.

* $309,030 to further statewide expansion of a school-nurse case-management program for children with chronic disease, a partnership of ECU and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services School of Health Initiative.

 * $261,227 for operating funds to help ECU Nephrology implement a kidney-disease-treatment program at primary care clinics in Eastern North Carolina.

The Reynolds Trust was created in 1947 by the will of Mrs. William N. Reynolds of Winston-Salem.

Three-fourths of the trust's grants are designated for use for health-related programs and services across North Carolina, and one-fourth for use in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.

Since 2003, East Carolina University has received nearly $2.3 million from the trust for support of 11 health-care-related projects.
