Triangle land group aims for $5.5 million

RALEIGH, N.C. - As it celebrates its 25^th anniversary, the Triangle Land Conservancy is launching a campaign to raise $5.5 million.

The group will use the funds to create the Land Opportunity Fund, a revolving fund that will help conserve critical natural lands, and that is expected to leverage more than $30 million worth of conservation.

During the quiet phase of the campaign, dubbed "Our Water, Our Land," the group collected $3.5 million.

The three largest gifts to date are $800,000 from the estate of Logan and Elinor Irvin, $200,000 from Capitol Broadcasting Company and $100,000 from John and Janice McAdams.

Mary Mac Bradshaw, Jonathan Howes and Adam Abram are co-chairing the campaign.

Bill Friday, former head of the University of North Carolina system, and Jim Goodmon, president and CEO of Capitol Broadcasting Company are serving as honorary chairs.
