Triangle YMCA to raise $4 million

RALEIGH, N.C. - YMCA of the Triangle has launched a campaign to raise $4 million, some of which will be used to offer an after-school tutoring program to additional academically at-risk kids.

The Y-Learning program, which currently helps 650 children improve their writing, reading and math skills, is one of the efforts that will benefit from funds raised during the 2008 WeBuildPeople campaign, chaired by Ann Goodnight.

The YMCA hopes to expand the program, which costs $1,500 per student, to include 1,000 children by 2010.

Last year's campaign raised $3.7 million and involved 1,900 volunteers.

YMCA of the Triangle includes 16 branches, 63 program sites and three camps in Wake, Durham, Johnston, Lee and Pamlico counties.
